The price of a family room with a double bed and two single beds is from £315 per night based on a four-night stay. Activities offered include quad biking and “water zorbing” (travelling across water in an inflated plastic ball). There’s also a Wee Explorers play-room with games and toys.

Cut-price Devon
Tennis, mini-golf and fishing are among the activities on offer at the Woolacombe Bay Holiday Park in Devon, where a seven-night stay in a three-bedroom lodge, sleeping up to eight, is now from £719 in October — a saving of £380 (0843 2080368, woolacombe.com). Lodges come with an open-plan lounge, kitchen and central heating. Guests can use an indoor heated pool, plus there’s a cinema, nightly live entertainment and an adventure playground. You pay extra for ten-pin bowling and trying out the heated surfing stimulator.

Cottage in Cornwall
How about holing up in a cosy country cottage? Sykes Cottages (sykescottages.co.uk) has properties across Britain, many with discounts of as much as 25 per cent at the end of October. Several are in Cornwall, including Walden Pond Cottage in St Blazey, which sleeps four. The charming stone cottage is on a country lane and has a little garden and a lounge with a wood-burning fire. A sandy beach is a two-mile drive away. The price for seven nights is from £405 on October 24.

Luxury in Thailand
Not many people head off at half-term to stay at a swanky villa in southeast Asia, but that’s what Destinology is offering at the five-star Banyan Tree Phuket in Thailand (01204 821012, destinology.co.uk). The resort, which is on Bang Tao Bay on the northwestern coast of Phuket, comes with a kids’ club, tennis courts and pools.
