If you’ve never visited Santa Susanna before and are considering a holiday somewhere sunny, relaxing and with plenty for families to do, this Spanish resort is well worth thinking about. Situated on the Costa del Maresme coast, the village of Santa Susanna is 60km from the city of Barcelona and is ideal if you want somewhere with gorgeous Spanish countryside as well as beautiful golden sands and inviting seas.

The marina area of Santa Susanna has plenty on offer if you’re a fan of water-based activities, including windsurfing, sailing, scuba diving, snorkelling, water skiing, kayaking, kite surfing and more. For getting back to nature, visit the Montnegre-Corredor Nature Reserve, located in the Catalan Mountains between El Maresme and El Vallès Oriental. You can choose to simply stroll around the area admiring the varied flora and fauna or, if mountain biking’s your thing, you can follow the bike trail through beautiful pine forests and stunning mountains.

In the nearby Blanes area of Spain are the Marimurta Botanical Gardens, blooming with thousands of gorgeous Mediterranean and subtropical plants and flowers, as well as some from further afield. The sloped gardens and large lake are perfect for taking a relaxing stroll around and you can take in some fantastic views of the coastline up in the Gardens’ temple.

If you’re thinking of taking a family holiday to Santa Susanna, the Marineland here is well worth a day trip, and is the ideal solution for when the kids are getting restless. Conveniently located near the Hotel Santa Susanna Resort, the Marineland Catalunya is part marine zoo, part waterpark and is open from early May to late September. Full of aquatic animals, there are shows regularly put on including dolphin shows, sea lion shows and exotic bird shows, and chances to feed some of the park’s inhabitants including the lovely old tortoises. There’s a Children’s Paradise area with shallow waters, ideal for kids to play in, and more daring rides and slides for the bigger and braver including the Tornado, Black Hole, Boomerang and Kamikaze water rides. Or you can just lay back and relax in one of the various swimming pools and the park.

Entry prices to Marineland Catalunya vary depending on when you visit and how many of you there are, and there are often savings to be made if you book online rather than paying on the door. It can also be worth finding out from your holiday rep if there are any passes you can buy for several excursions that will save you money in the long run.
